If you visit one of the websites or apps of the Royal Netherlands Football Association (hereinafter referred to as "the KNVB", "us" or "we"), request information via our websites or apps, contact us by telephone, register with us or request another service, we register your personal data

The KNVB is responsible for the collection and processing of personal data as described in this Privacy Statement. This may involve data that you have filled in, for example via questionnaires or somewhere else on the website or in the app. The KNVB also safeguards and respects your privacy in the context of these processing operations, for example by complying with the General Data Protection Regulation. This means that your personal data will only be used insofar as it is compatible with the purposes for which it is obtained, and that you can exercise certain rights with regard to your personal data.

1. Categories of personal data and source of acquisition

The KNVB processes the following categories of personal data for the processing operations described in this Privacy Statement.

We receive this personal data from football clubs that are affiliated with us:

  • client number;
  • address details;
  • sex;
  • date, place and country of birth;
  • details of membership of football clubs and the KNVB (such as start and end dates);
  • telephone number(s);
  • e-mail address(es);
  • fax number;
  • passport photo (digital player's card);
  • details of diplomas (referee and trainer courses);
  • nationality(ies)
  • type and number of identification (for control purposes);
  • data on selection of representative teams;
  • preferred settings for display of personal data (in applications);
  • contract details (contract players and certain officials);
  • membership of association committees;
  • data on positions within the football club;
  • match data;
  • participation in association activities (such as congresses and camps);
  • financial data.

We receive this personal data from schools that participate in the school football tournament that the KNVB organises each year:

* player's surname;
* given name;
* date of birth;
* details of membership of football clubs.

We receive this personal data from our partners with whom we have entered into an agreement:

* given name and surname;
* email address;
* sex;
* date of birth.

We receive this personal data from general practitioners and referrers who refer clients to the KNVB Sports Medical Centre:

* sex;
* name;
* date of birth.

We receive this personal data from the Anti-Doping Authority of the Netherlands, which carries out doping tests (also on behalf of the KNVB) and informs us about the results of these tests:

* address details;
* sex;
* date of birth;
* nationality;
* identity card type and number;
* telephone number;
* signature;
* result of doping test.

We receive this personal data as part of our stadium ban policy from member clubs, the police (CIV) and the Public Prosecution Service:

2. Purposes, bases and retention periods for processing

On the basis of different legal bases, we process your personal data for the following purposes.

In order to perform the agreement with you (such as KNVB membership), we use your personal data (especially) for the purposes mentioned below. The period for which we store this personal data is specified after each purpose.

PurposeRetention period

For our members, we organise competitions and all related activities and matters through a single general membership administration.

No longer than necessary for the purposes for which the data is processed, and in any event for as long as required under specific legislation

The enforcement of internal association rules, including the handling of disciplinary, doping, sexual harassment and licensing cases; verification of analytical results of doping tests; assessment of transfer and dispensation requests; handling issues relating to (inter)national training fees, solidarity contributions and pool fees; appointment of qualified referees, registration of player contracts, control of player lists, supervision of intermediaries, assessments of youth development programmes under the Youth Development Programme Quality and Performance Model Regulations.

No longer than necessary for the purposes for which the data is processed, and in any event for as long as required under specific legislation

Setting up and maintaining the committee system, such as organising meetings, providing secretarial assistance, pursuing an awards policy, and providing a general admission ticket to professional football.

10 years after end of term of office

We offer various courses and training programmes (for example for players, directors, trainers and referees) and we organise meetings, training camps, KNVB Football Camps, knowledge evenings and conferences.

5 years after participation

By offering other forms of football, such as school, street and CP football and Kicks, we try to retain footballers for the sport for as long as possible.

10 years after participation

If you activate an account via the www.voetbal.nl website or the football.nl app, we can provide you with customised information.

5 years after deactivation of your account

If you create an account via the Azerion Women’s Eredivisie app, we can provide you with customised information.6 months after deactivation of your account

When you join the OnsOranje or Jonge Leeuwen fan club, you will be included in their 'member base' and can then benefit from various advantages.

10 years after participation

In order to be able to provide you with the latest information on football-related topics, we will periodically send you newsletters (e.g. the newsletter of Oranje ClubCard holders and KNVB Football Camps).

5 years after the end of membership or last activity

We rent out meeting rooms, sports fields and the sports hall.

5 years after rental

The provision of health care by the KNVB Sports Medical Centre, consisting of client administration for (injury) consultations, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and sports medical examinations.

15 years after the end of treatment from the age of eighteenr

We sell tickets for matches of representative teams of the KNVB, the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Trophy. For ticket sales, we process orders, accept payments and provide customer support.

10 years after ticket sale

We can match e-mail addresses of ticket buyers and Oranje ClubCard holders in a (pseudonymized) way with e-mail addresses of users of social media parties, such as Facebook and Google, so that we can reach (similar) target groups via social media. You will then see relevant advertisements and/or search results from us.

2 years after ticket and/or OCC sale

In addition, we have an accreditation policy for people who work for or attend matches of representative teams, the KNVB Cup, the Johan Cruijff Trophy and other KNVB events.

2 years after the match for which accreditation is requested

Visitors of away matches of the Netherlands team receive additional information, for example about the itinerary.

2 years after the away game

We are working hard to increase safety in stadiums by cooperating on the imposition and enforcement of civil-law stadium bans and supporting a voluntary notification duty and an alternative route. Appeals may be lodged against the stadium bans imposed, after which the stadium bans committee will give a decision.

Five years after the end of the stadium ban

In order to comply with our statutory obligations, we use your personal data (especially) for the purposes listed below. The period for which we store this personal data is specified after the purposes.

PurposeRetention period

We check the citizen service number so that we can be sure that the care provided by the KNVB Sports Medical Centre is provided to the right person.

15 years after the end of treatment from the age of eighteen

We may use personal data for the purposes of court orders or other mandatory laws or regulations..

5 years after end of procedure

In addition, we use your personal data on the basis of our legitimate interest (especially) for the purposes mentioned below. The period for which we store this personal data is specified after each purpose.

PurposeRetention period

Under strict conditions, we cooperate with telephone and postal campaigns of our partners and carefully selected third parties, who have requested this and have entered into an agreement with us for this use of our member base. We select on the basis of campaigns that offer an advantage and/or are exclusive for the members. The reason for this cooperation is that it enables us to generate extra funds for the development of football by using the data available within the KNVB.

10 years after termination of KNVB membership

In the event of legal proceedings to which we are a party, we may use personal data.

5 years after end of procedure

We register our visitors so that on the one hand we receive them more hospitably and on the other we can better secure our buildings.

1 month after visit

We protect our buildings and sites by means of camera surveillance.

3 weeks after recording

And finally, we use your personal data on the basis of permission, which you have given (especially) for the purposes mentioned below. The period for which we store this personal data is specified after each purpose.

PurposeRetention period

If you have given us permission, we (i) organise and (ii) cooperate under strict conditions with email campaigns of the KNVB and our partners and carefully selected third parties who have requested it and have entered into an agreement with us for this purpose. We select on the basis of campaigns that offer an advantage and/or are exclusive. The reason for this cooperation is that it enables us to generate extra funds by using the data available within the KNVB.

5 years after withdrawal of consent

We are continuously trying to improve our range of courses. For this reason, we conduct surveys (for example, about our referee and trainer courses) in which you can participate.

2 years after participation in survey

We can match e-mail addresses in a (pseudonymized) way with e-mail addresses of users of social media parties, such as Facebook and Google, so that we can reach (similar) target groups via social media. You will then see relevant advertisements and/or search results from us.

5 years after withdrawal of consent

If you have asked us a question, for example about reservations, meetings, administrative or referee matters, we will answer your question as soon as possible.

2 years after answering

We organise various win campaigns in which you can participate.

5 years after participation

Intermediary organisations and players' trade unions have the option to apply for a quality mark in order to distinguish themselves from organisations that do not have this quality mark.

5 years after withdrawal of quality mark

In connection with our disciplinary proceedings, it is possible in certain cases that you voluntarily participate in a so-called alternative intervention, consisting of behavioural training by Halt. In that case you give us permission to provide your data to Halt.

5 years after end of intervention

For activities of our representative teams, we scout, select, analyse and train players.

10 years after last activity

We organise recruitment campaigns, for example for the KNVB Youth Council, in order to involve football players in the sport of football as much as possible.

5 years after registration

You can order pennants for participants in the local tournaments of the school football tournament.

2 years after application

If you are going to participate in a KNVB Football Camp, you will be asked for additional information on the day of the football camp in order to be sure that we know whether we need to take allergies and dietary requirements into account.

2 years after participation

Finally, we use your personal data for historical, statistical and scientific purposes. No retention periods apply to these purposes.

3. Provision to third parties

For the processing operations described in this Privacy Statement, we may send your personal data to (in particular) the following parties:                                                               

  • Football clubs affiliated with the KNVB;
  • OnsOranje BV (fan club);
  • Sportlink Services BV (managing the member base);
  • Voetbalmedia BV (aimed at developing, managing and operating websites, mobile and other platforms, such as the voetbal.nl app, or having them developed, managed and operated in full or in part);
  • international football organisations (such as FIFA, UEFA, foreign football associations and clubs);
  • national sports organisations (such as NOC*NSF and NebasNsg);
  • national football organisations (such as VVON and CBV);
  • our partners (see https://www.knvb.nl/over-ons/partners) and carefully selected third parties who have requested it and who have entered into an agreement with us to this end either directly or indirectly;
  • social media parties such as Facebook and Google (aimed at being able to reach (similar) target groups via social media with relevant advertisements and/or search results from us;
  • health care providers (such as general practitioners);
  • law firms;
  • insurance brokers;
  • bailiffs;
  • police (CIV) and Public Prosecution Service;
  • government.

In addition, for the processing of your personal data, we use IT suppliers who are given access to your data.

4. Your rights

With regard to (the use of) your personal data, you can exercise the following rights by sending a letter to the KNVB, PO Box 515, 3700 AM Zeist, FAO Legal Affairs department, sending an e-mail to privacy@knvb.nl or using our contact form:

  • the right to access your personal data processed by the KNVB;
  • the right to have your personal data adjusted, for example if it is no longer accurate;
  • right to have your personal data deleted;
  • right to limitation of the processing of your personal data;
  • the right to object to the processing of your personal data, for example if you no longer wish to receive information about products or services from us and/or third parties;
  • The right to transfer your data; and
  • the right to withdraw your consent at any time (if consent is the basis for the processing). Withdrawal of consent will have no retroactive effect. This means that consent is no longer valid from the moment it is withdrawn.

The KNVB will usually respond to your request within one month, unless this is not possible due to the complexity of your request or the number of requests submitted. In such an exceptional case, we will inform you within one month at the latest and extend our response period by a maximum of two months.

If you no longer wish to receive information (other than service messages) and offers, you can unsubscribe from them. If it concerns information received by post and/or telephone, please unsubscribe by sending a letter to the KNVB, PO Box 515, 3700 AM Zeist, FAO Legal Affairs department, sending an e-mail to privacy@knvb.nl or using our contact form. For information received by email, you can unsubscribe using that particular text.

In addition to the above rights, you can submit a complaint to the Dutch Data Protection Authority here if you believe that the KNVB is processing your personal data in contravention of the applicable laws.

5. Third-party sites

This Privacy Statement does not apply to third-party websites that may be visited through links from this website or app. The KNVB expressly accepts no liability whatsoever for websites of third parties and the privacy policies operated by these third parties.

The KNVB reserves the right to make changes to this Privacy Statement. It is recommended that you consult this Privacy Statement regularly so that you are aware of these changes. The last change was on November 13, 2023. The most important changes per version:

  • November 13, 2023: addition regarding creating an account via the Azerion Women’s Eredivisie app;
  • March 23, 2022: addition regarding being able to reach (similar) target groups via social media
  • May 25, 2018: update due to coming into force of the General Data Protection Regulation.
