Ajax Women have won the national league title for a second year running. The Amsterdam side lifted the trophy after beating rivals FC Twente away in Enschede 2-1.

Coach Benno Nihom's team started the elite championship group fixtures trailing FC Twente by two points, but with one game in hand, they have already secured the national title.

In Monday’s away match against FC Twente, the Ajax women's side went 1-0 behind to an Ellen Jansen goal, but Marjolijn van den Bighelaar and Desiree van Lunteren turned the game into a 2-1 victory for the guests.

With Ajax Women now five points clear in the Eredivisie, there remains little at stake in their home game against PSV on Sunday. However, one week later, things will be quite different when the two sides meet again in Spakenburg for the KNVB Cup final. For the first time in history, the winner will be handed the famous pine-cone shaped trophy.
