In 2023, KNVB WorldCoaches has trained more than 1500 coaches, spread across seventeen countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia. One-third of them are female, which indicates that not only men get the opportunity to develop as coaches.
Every week, more than one course was conducted somewhere in the world – with a total of 69 courses in 2023. Consequently, more than 22.000 boys and girls can now train on a weekly basis under the guidance of the WorldCoaches that were educated last year.
The KNVB started the WorldCoaches programme in 2009 based on its social responsibility for the global football family. The philosophy is to train football coaches in their own neighborhood or village so that they can act as local trainers as well as role models in their immediate social environment.
The programme is based on KNVB's extensive international coaching and training experience. Football is a connecting factor, anywhere in the world. Our trained WorldCoaches play a major role in this by inspiring and guiding children in their athletic and social development on three themes: personal development, health and social cohesion.
These themes contribute directly to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). These are goals set by the United Nations and aim to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. With the unique and universal appeal of football, the KNVB contributes to a better society.
