KNVB and the German Football Association (DFB) have officially extended their formal cooperation. Last Tuesday night, just before the kick off between the Dutch and German national teams, both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam. This means that the agreement, which was originally signed in 2019, will be extended until at least 2024.
The MoU was signed by KNVB President Just Spee and DFB General-Secretary Heike Ullrich, as well as KNVB General-Secretary Gijs de Jong, KNVB CEO of Professional Football Marianne van Leeuwen and DFB Vice President Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Both federations used the international friendly match in Amsterdam to strengthen their partnership. Ahead of the game, a mix of around 30 staff members of both federations attended workshops at the KNVB Campus. Regarding football administration, the topics included match operations, club-development and the direction of national teams. On the technical level, the conversations focused on specialized staff, the UEFA Pro License and refereeing. Furthermore, in the context of societal responsibility, talks were held about fan involvement and improving the volunteering system.
As part of bilateral exchanges, various activities between KNVB and DFB have been organized in the past. Examples include a tactical hackathon about game-analysis, a two-day long workshop about security and presenting the security- and hygiene concept of the KNVB and DFB during a Bundesliga match. Close cooperation in the future is ensured, as the KNVB and DFB, together with the Royal Belgian Football Association, are launching a bid to organize the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
