In the lead‑up to the match, the KNVB and the Football Association of Norway (NFF) met for a Top Executive Meeting with one clear purpose: to collaborate, compare, and learn from one another to improve football.
"These kinds of meetings genuinely benefit us", said Gijs de Jong (KNVB Secretary‑General). "We inspire each other to explore new solutions. This match is about more than just the result on the pitch. It’s great to see how much common ground we share and where we can work together for the future of football."
Both associations expressed a clear ambition: to learn together and make a visible difference. From full stadiums to youth football on Saturday mornings. From strengthening supporter engagement and local clubs to a shared vision on human rights and Norway’s action plan to involve more women and girls in football.
In smaller sessions, colleagues then dove deeper into topics that affect the sport. From international social programmes and stadium security to organisational development: experiences were compared and translated into new ideas and joint opportunities. The focus was on applicability and real impact.
The common thread was clear: the Netherlands and Norway want not only to share knowledge, but to build the future of football together—with courage, openness, and the willingness to act. What unites us is a shared conviction that football belongs to everyone. That is precisely why we work together to move the game forward for future generations.
