Oranje internationals Tijjani Reijnders, Marten de Roon, Quinten Timber and Lutsharel Geertruida paid a special visit to a KNVB WorldCoaches clinic in Kansas City this week, where they had a meet and greet with local coaches and young participants of the programme.

The WorldCoaches course in Kansas is part of a joint initiative by the KNVB, Kansas City Current, NIKE and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programme focuses on strengthening the skills of coaches in girls’ and women’s football, combining football training with life skills to support broader personal development both on and off the pitch.

A total of 25 local coaches took part in the programme, aimed to educate them with the Dutch school of football. The WorldCoaches learned how to use football as a tool to improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of vulnerable youth in their communities.

Special guests

The programme concluded on Wednesday, June 10, at the Kansas City Current training complex, where participants organised a youth tournament for 45 children from underprivileged areas of the city.

During the event, the visiting Dutch internationals engaged with both coaches and children, took photos and created an atmosphere of excitement and motivation. Their presence highlighted the importance of role models, a key part of the WorldCoaches vision.

A notable reunion also took place during the visit, as Tijjani Reijnders met KNVB instructor Bert Zuurman, who coached him during his youth career at PEC Zwolle.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Legacy

The Kansas City clinic marks the second activity within the KNVB’s WorldCoaches Legacy Programme surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In April, a similar course was delivered in Vancouver in collaboration with local First Nations communities.

The partnership with Kansas City Current aligns with the KNVB’s established approach of working with the host club where the Dutch national team is based during international tournaments.

Through its WorldCoaches Legacy Programme, the KNVB aims to create lasting social impact beyond football, while strengthening international cooperation and building sustainable relationships worldwide.
