The Dutch cabinet has announced that it wants the 2023 UEFA Women's Champions League final to be played in Eindhoven.
Sports Minister Bruno Bruins believes that hosting the final in 2023 could have a positive effect on a Dutch bid for the FIFA 2027 Women's World Cup. The KNVB, the municipality of Eindhoven and Philips stadium have officially submitted a bid to host the final of the top-flight European club competition.
Nice prelude to the bid for the 2027 World Cup
The decision on which city will stage the final will be taken by UEFA in March. Minister Bruins supports the Eindhoven bid. He says he would be thrilled to see the final played in the PSV stadium.
"That can be a nice prelude to the bid for the 2027 World Cup", he said during the sports budget debate in the Dutch Lower House. The Dutch cabinet and parliament previously expressed their interest in bringing the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup to the Netherlands.
