Girls & women's football

Girls' and women's football has grown rapidly over the past two decades in the Netherlands. The WEURO2017 victory, the finals at the 2019 World Cup and participation in the Tokyo Olympics. It is no longer possible to imagine the national footbal landscape without the OranjeLeeuwinnen.

The Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie is also making headway and gaining more and more stature. How different was it 50 years ago, when women's football finally became an official part of the KNVB?

Today, partly thanks to the efforts of everyone who worked on it for half a century, the KNVB has over 162,000 female members and 1,862 grassroots clubs have one or more women's teams, the largest number of team sports in the Netherlands.
