Just Spee is to step down from his duties at the KNVB. The 58-year-old President of the Royal Netherlands Football Federation has indicated that his health no longer allows him to fulfil his duties at the association. Spee was appointed President of the Royal Netherlands Football Federation in 2019, succeeding Michael van Praag, before being re-elected in 2022.

Spee calls his resignation a disappointment: "My health unfortunately does not allow me to continue with the work I have enjoyed so much. That hurts. I have come to know the KNVB as a fine organisation with excellent colleagues, with whom I enjoyed working. Then a farewell is difficult, especially when forced by circumstances. The cliché is that health comes before everything, which unfortunately also applies to my situation now."

Jan Albers, chairman of the KNVB Supervisory Board professional football: "Just's departure is incredibly unfortunate and sad. He has done great work for the association. Internationally, but certainly also domestically, although the latter is often less visible. I saw what a good role he played, also within the organisation, and I want to thank him for that."

Albert van Wijk, chairman of the KNVB Supervisory Board amateur football: "It is a huge pity that Just has to resign from his job as national chairman. First of all, he is a man with an enormous passion for our football. He is a great networker and connector, as a chairman should be. He empowered people and made the organisation stronger. I have particular appreciation for him, as a person and an administrator."

Spee will officially remain President of the Royal Netherlands Football Federation until the upcoming association meeting in December. Then he will formally resign his position. Besides chairing the KNVB, Spee is also a member of UEFA's Executive Committee. This position, which is considerably less strenuous in time and energy, he will continue to hold for the time being.

In the short term, the KNVB will start a careful process for the succession of Just Spee.
