Gianni Infantino has been re-elected as FIFA president. He was re-elected by acclamation today during the 69th FIFA annual congress, attended by the representatives of its 212 member countries.
As previously announced, the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) gave its backing to Infantino's candidacy for a second term. "Good thing for football, this re-election," commented KNVB President Michael van Praag, who attended the proceedings in Paris along with Secretary-General Gijs de Jong. “Infantino is willing to reform. In my opinion, he is one of the most progressive international football executives of our time. Infantino is also the president who makes and keeps football accessible to everyone all over the world", Van Praag added.
KNVB Secretary-General Gijs de Jong underlined the words of his president: “Infantino's first decision in terms of football development was granting permission to experiment with the VAR. In addition, he has masterminded the further roll-out of women's football on the international level. And he actively fosters dialogue between national football governing bodies by promoting annual strategic meetings on all continents. He has set football in motion and has made the development of the game more important."
