Dick Advocaat is to take charge as manager of the Netherlands national team. His assistant will be Ruud Gullit.

Ruud Gullit, 1988 European champion

The two coaches will lead the first team until December of this year, completing the remainder of their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. If the Netherlands qualify, Advocaat and Gullit will stay on to steer the team at the finals in Russia.

Luxembourg

Dick Advocaat will join the Netherlands squad in the run-up to the World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg, scheduled in Rotterdam on 9 June. The same goes for Ruud Gullit. Advocaat will first finish his contract with his current employer, Fenerbahce in Turkey, before taking up his new post. In the meantime, Fred Grim will remain in temporary charge of the first team, before becoming second assistant to Advocaat.

This will be Advocaat’s third spell as manager of the Netherlands national team; the first two were from 1992 to 1994 and from 2002 to 2004. Gullit has 66 caps to his name and was the Netherlands captain during the 1988 European Championship finals, which the Netherlands won.
